Captain Brian Sherman

Gotta love it!  That's captain Brian Sherman of Cajun Unlimited in Venice, LA. If my 411 is correct, Brian came to Louisiana to assist after Hurricane Katrina.  I believe he's from Michigan.  Brian if you see this please correct me if I'm wrong.  But Brian stayed in Buras and has adapted quite well.  He's growing in his knowledge of fishing the waters in south Louisiana with the guidance of Captain/Pastor Jesse Morris.

May you all have a blessed and prosperous day.  Grace, peace and increase!

GREAT CATCH OF REDFISH

I enjoy catching reds.  These were caught on a fishing trip in Venice, LA.  Some may wonder why I'm always talking about catching reds in Louisiana.  Well, I suppose that it is because I've never caught a red since I've moved back to Mississippi. The reds seem to be more plentiful in Louisiana.  Catching reds there is almost like catching white trout here.

I want to invite my fellow fisherman, women included, to send pictures of your fishing trips along with info about the trip to calvin_hyde@hotmail.com.  Grace, peace and increase to ya!

Captain Chad
www.cajununlimited.com

That's Captain Chad of Cajun Unlimited in Venice, LA.  What a nice spec.  I met Chad the first time I went fishing in Venice.  The fishing trip was hosted by Faith Temple Ministries where Captain Jesse Morris is the pastor.  Chad wasn't a captain that day.  The drive-shaft on his boat had broken while checking his crab traps.  We picked him up on our boat and continued our trip.  I've fished with Chad a time or two since our first meeting and he is a pleasure to fish with.  He was the captain on the trip in June '05 when I took some co-workers.  They thoroughly enjoyed the experience.  The guys talked about the trip so much that others wanted to go to Venice but hurricane Katrina hit.
If there was one thing I could say about fishing with Captain Jesse Morris and the other captains from his church is that there is always a peace on their boats when bad weather moves in.  Never any fear or panic.  Thank God for that.  Well, have a blessed day.  And grace, peace and increase to ya!

Captain Jesse Morris
                                                    www.cajununlimited.com

Today's featured guide service is CAJUN UNLIMITED of Venice, LA.  In the photo above is Captain Jesse Morris.  He is a co-owner of CAJUN UNLIMITED.  I have been fishing and fellow-shipping with Jesse for ten years now and we've never really had a bad day fishing. Even during the tropical storm this past September, we still caught fish.  I've learned a lot about different types of fishing from Jesse and the guides that work with him.  Captain Jesse is also Pastor Jesse.  He is the pastor of Faith Temple Ministries in Buras, LA. Many of the men in his church are guides as well.  All of the guides are quite knowledgeable of the waters and what techniques would produce the most fish.
If you would like to book a trip for your family, church or any other group, contact Captain Jesse at 504-234-2573 and tell him Calvin Hyde or THE PASSIONATE FISHERMAN sent you. Grace, peace and increase to ya!

Early Sunrise and Ready to Fish!

What a beautiful sight after the nasty weather we had this past weekend.  This picture is from one of my trips to the causeway behind the shipyard in Pascagoula.  There's an oyster reef in that area.  If you're there at the right time you can catch white trout and ground mullet in abundance.  You can even catch some specs and flounders as well.  One day the white trout nearly demolished a d.o.a. shrimp I was using.  My friend Jack Rodney loaded his cooler by 8:30 on a Friday morning.  I go there the next day and caught under 5.  That's why it's called fishing.

Above is a black drum that Jack Rodney caught under the causeway.  I can't wait for the springtime to arrive.  I hope to get out this week depending on the weather.  Gotta go.  Tag along and pass it on. Grace, peace and increase to ya!

THE PASSIONATE FISHERMAN

The first family, with the ladies, fishing trip in Venice, LA.  We had a great time. The weather was beautiful and the redfish were biting.  It was Vivian's first time fishing and she had the hot hand that day.  Lisa caught one and sat down the rest of the trip.  She got a mean sunburn. We fished with Captain Eddie and Kim Dugar and they are truly a blessing. That day was one of the best days of my life.  Being out with your family, whether fishing or not, speaks volumes.  I want to encourage you to get out with your family.  Have a good time because life is short but memories last a lifetime.  Grace, peace and increase to ya!

(From R to L) Andy, Marcel & Me

The above picture is from a past fishing trip in Venice, LA. Pictured with me are Andy Loyd and Marcel Joseph.  We met each other in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma while attending Rhema Bible Training Center in the late 1980's.  We fished a few ponds and rivers in that area.  Marcel and I have both fished with Andy in Florida where he lives.  For the last ten years we have met once a year with a group of ministers for two days of fishing, food and fellowship in Venice. It is a great time for all in attendance.  I'll share more about that event at another time.

Please continue to tag along and pass it on.  Grace, peace and increase to ya!

My Dream Boat

My Dream Boat

No fish today.  The fish were there but we were using the wrong bait.  Because one fisherman caught 7 specs and 2 reds.  Rodney and I were experimenting with new lures.  The Game Warden told us that the area we were in has been having some activity.  That's around the 613 bridge coming out of Moss Point, MS.
How do you like that boat?  It is sweet.  I't by SEAFOX.  I saw it at the Boat and RV Show.  It is my desire to have a boat of that caliber.  Before I purchase a boat like that I must put a new car for my wife in the driveway first.
Ya'll be blessed and remember,  "God doesn't help those that help themselves, but rather help those that yield to Him."  Grace, peace and increase to ya!

                                       Capt. Jonathan Allen                                                          Speckled Trout

This is Captain Jonathan Allen of Louisiana Fishing Guide Service.  I met him at the Boat and RV Show this past weekend in Biloxi, MS.  Take note of the size of the Speckled Trout that he and the members of his crew caught.  In front of the coolers are the lures that were used to make the catch.  My partner Rodney wanted to buy the fish after the show.  If you are interested in booking an outing with Captain Allen you can call 985-285-4946 or visit www.louisianafishingguideservice.com.  Tell him that THE PASSIONATE FISHERMAN sent you.

I'm planning to go fishing tomorrow.  I should be feeling better by then.  I had chills, aches and a temp last night.  Grace, peace and increase to ya!

THE PASSIONATE FISHERMAN

Cole & Me

In June '05, I got a group together and exposed them to fishing out of Venice, LA.  The guys really had a great time.  Fishing behind me is Robert Cole from Mobile, AL.  As a matter of fact Cole caught a 32 pound red that day.  One of the things I like about fishing in Louisiana is that the limits are better than here in Mississippi.
Please continue to tag along and pass it on.  In the future there will be more pictures and videos of "How To" segments, cooking (yummmmmm) and other features. There may be a contest or two.  If you have pictures of some recent fishing trips (Recreational only) and would like to be featured please send them, along with a bio, to calvin_hyde@hotmail.com. (Subject: For The Passionate Fisherman)

If you contact any of the featured businesses such as Delo's Heavenly House of Coffee in Gautier, tell them that THE PASSIONATE FISHERMAN sent you.  Who knows, you might get a discount.  Grace, peace and increase to ya!

Moses and Aaron sittin' on the dock of the bay.
Today was a great day. Service was great at church and I had a chance to see a lot of friends at the 2nd Liners Brunch in Biloxi, MS.  Since it is Sunday, I thought the above picture would be appropoe. Ha, Ha, Ha!
Whew! I just finished a plate of hot wings and topped it off with a piece of King Cake. Oh, yeah I'm good.

Captain Ike Schmitt
At this time I would like to introduce to you Captain Ike Schmitt of Salt Grass Outdoors.  I met him yesterday at the Boat and RV Show in Biloxi,MS. I enjoyed talking with him.  Captain Ike charters fishing trips from Venice, LA. I've been fishing there for the past ten years and I love it. I think Louisiana has the best redfish and speckled trout fishing in the world.  I haven't fished with Captain Ike yet but I hope that in the future the opportunity will present itself.  If you would like to learn more about Captain Ike and his guide service please visit: www.saltgrassoutdoors.com or call 228.806.8306.
Tomorrow I'll feature another guide service.

Now, for those that may wonder why "fisherman 55"?  First and foremost Jesus has made me a "fisher of men".  In the Hebrew alphabet the fifth letter represents grace.  The first born male receives the double portion of the inheritance.  And since Jesus is the first begotten of the Father and I'm in Him, then I get to enjoy the double portion of His grace.

I pray that this week will be the best ever for you.  Grace, peace and increase to ya!

                                                                                                     THE PASSIONATE FISHERMAN

Today, I enjoyed the Boat and RV Show at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum with my life long friend and fishing partner (Jack) Rodney Polk. There were some great boats on display.  As soon as I can get some pics uploaded I'll post them.
My wife and I will dress-up tonight and step-out on the town. I can't stay out too late because of church in the morning.  For those who don't know, I am the pastor of New Covenant of Grace Church here in Gautier. Currently, we're meeting at Delo's Heavenly House of Coffee on Gautier-Vancleave Road across from the car wash. Service time is 9:00 a.m.  If you're a fisherman, you can make the service and still have time to fish.  I've gone out a few times after church and had a good day fishing.  Actually, a good day fishing for me is just getting the boat in the water.  If you want to know what's going on in Gautier and the surrounding area please visit: Vagabondlady063.blogspot.com.  Grace, peace and increase to ya.

I'm Calvin Hyde from Gautier, MS. I am very passionate about fishing.  Fishing to me is the most relaxing and fun filled activity there is.  There's nothing like being out on the water at early sunrise enjoying the rising of the sun, a cool pleasant breeze and the soothing sound of the waves.  During this time of enjoying God's creation I pray for the protection of other fisherman and that we all will have a great catch of fish. I also thank God that I am no longer bound to fishing from the banks.  Talk about freedom!
I don't catch fish all the time but I enjoy just being on the boat running from spot to spot with the engine wide open.  I love the speed and power.  I can't wait to upgrade to a faster motor. I do this safely while being mindful of other boats. My wife and daughters will go with me and my oldest daughter will go at every opportunity.  One night we went fishing at midnight. This is a great time of bonding for us.  I plan to teach her how to pilot the boat and drive the van with the boat in tow.
Tomorrow, Saturday the 11th, I'm planning the attend a boat and RV show.  I hope that my dream boat, a Coastal Bay 2310, will be there.  I hope to have pictures of my outing.  Grace, peace and increase.
